How to Soak off Dip Nails
Now if you are anything like me now is the time when you are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to nail maintenance. Ladies, when I tell you I have been on the struggle bus it has been horrible. I am a person that gets my nails done every 2-3 weeks, so being extremely overdue for my nail appointment has not been sitting right with me. It was so bad that my nails were coming up and getting stuck in my hair so I knew it was time to come off.
I never really pay attention when I am in the salon getting my nails taken off so I did a little research to find a method that would work for me to get the dip powder off of my nails without a drill.
What you are going to need:
Acetone (Standard acetone will work just fine)
A bowl (I used a glass bowl, however ceramic will work fine also)
12x12 piece of foil (cut into 10 pieces one for each finger)
1 pack of cotton balls
1 nail file
1 nail clipper
Clear polish
Keep in mind I have had my nails consistently done since I was 17 years old never missed a nail appointment. So we are talking about 13 years of my nails consistently being done. No down time.
Steps to take to get the Dip off:
1: Use the nail file to get as much of the top coat off your nails as you possibly can.
2: Dip cotton ball in acetone.
3: Place acetone infused cotton ball on each nail.
4: Wrap aluminum foil around each finger
At this point I waited about 15 minutes before checking to see the progress. Let’s just say it wasn't how it typically looked at the shop by this point but there was progress. At this point I decided to speed up the progress and pour acetone into a bowl and place my hands in there. Every few minutes or so I would take my hands out and file the dip off.
I finally got all of the dip powder off my nails, and boy were my nails long and brittle. I first clipped down my nails, and after clipping down my nails I placed a clear coat hardener on them.
Overall, the progress took me about 1 hour. This was a first for me however, this is something that I needed to learn how to do. In these times we need to learn how to do things for ourselves if we don't already know how to do them. Next I need to master painting my nails a color besides clear.
XoXo,
Amber
